APHRODITE

Aphrodite is the symbol of love and beauty

She was known as a sensual goddess who had many lovers. Although difficult to control, it held an important place in ancient mythology.

Along with the other 11 Olympian deities, the Greek goddess Aphrodite lived on Mount Olympus. Aphrodite is always portrayed as a beautiful young woman. She has long hair and wears a robe that emphasizes her feminine figure.

She is considered the most beautiful woman in the world

Her most important symbol is her belt, which is said to contain a large part of her feminine power.

Her other symbols include the golden apple, dolphins, roses, a mirror and a swan.
Aphrodite is a very popular subject in art. Many paintings and sculptures deal with the beauty of the former Cypriot woman.
The sculptor, Pygmalion, fell in love with the statue he created and wanted it to come to life. Aphrodite granted his wish and his statue came to life.

Aphrodite was a passionate woman

To avoid war between the gods, her father Zeus looked for a husband for her who could deal with her well. Unfortunately, his plan was not successful. Because even though she had a husband, Aphrodite had many lovers. Because her husband Hephaestus, the god of fire and blacksmithing, was far too tame for her and not particularly good-looking.

Her lovers included Ares, Hermes, Poseidon, Adonis and Dionysus.
After Hephaestus found out about the adultery, he forged a very fine, indestructible net, which he attached to the marital bed. When Aphrodite was having fun with Ares, the god of war, he caught them both in the net and then showed them to the other Olympian gods. But out of glee they laughed loudly at him and so Aphrodite continued her double life.

Aphrodite had many children with her lovers

Her favorite son was Eros, whose Roman equivalent is Cupid. He accompanied her almost everywhere and often carried her on his golden wings. The two were particularly close because Aphrodite saved Eros' life after birth.

Eros has a special power. Anyone hit by his arrows fell madly in love with the next person they saw. But he was also very clever and vengeful. That's why Zeus wanted to kill him. To prevent this, Aphrodite hid her son in the forest, where he was fed by two wild lionesses.

Like all Greek gods, Aphrodite was powerful and immortal

Her magical belt gave her the ability to make gods fall in love with other goddesses or mortals. She was also able to breathe new life into relationships that were doomed to end. Sometimes she borrowed her magic belt from the goddess Hera.

The goddesses Aphrodite, Hera and Athena had a big argument. Each claimed to be the most beautiful on Mount Olympus. To settle the dispute, a beauty contest was held, with Paris as the referee. To win, the goddesses bribed and offered their gifts to Paris - Hera offered power, Athena offered wisdom, but Aphrodite offered something very special!

She promised Paris the love of the most beautiful woman - Helena. Of course, Aphrodite won the competition and received the golden apple as the most beautiful of all goddesses. This event is considered to be the trigger for the Trojan War.
